But his held oflabor was that of the civilian and the states-man: and when his mind grasped ihe truths ofthe law, (hey were engrafted on a foundation ofthe strongest common sense and intuitive saga-city. In 1765 he was placed by the people inthe House of Burgesses of Virginia, and therehe commenced the opposition to the oppressivemeasures of the British government.
