Valetta Grand Harbour Malta with cruises ships in 1971. The one on the left is the Mermoz, built in 1957 as the Jean Mermoz for service between Marseilles and West Africa. Over 1969 and 1970, she was a converted into a full-time cruise ship. The newly named Mermoz was deemed one of the finest cruise ships of her day 'taking on all the white livery and a very modern appearance' and sailing around the world. Latterly her name was changed again to Serenade. She saw out her days cruising around Cyprus, the Greek Islands and Egypt before being scrapped in 2008.
