A singular circumstance is related of him,in connection with his office as Chancellor. When he first took his seat, it isreported that he requested that he should not be addressed by the title ofYour Excellency. A very eccentric lawyer was then a practitioner in thecourt, and with great solemnity addressed the Chancellor almost immediatelyafter this announcement, in these words: May it please your Excellency:Your Excellencys predecessors were addressed by the title of Excellency,and if
