I had determined to explore themountain ahead, and the sledges were to be usedin transporting the baggage. February 6. Accompanied by Mr. Fitzpat-rick, I sat out to-day with a reconnoitring party,on snow-shoes. We marched all in a single file,trampling the snow as heavily as we could.
