Ben Nevis From Loch Eil Corpach Fortwilliam Inverness-shire GPL 1026

Loch Eil (Scottish Gaelic, Loch Iall) is a sea loch in Lochaber, Scotland that opens into Loch Linnhe near the town of Fort William. Loch Eil Outward Bound railway station and Locheilside railway station are both situated on the northern shore of the loch. Visitors are often disconcerted by the industrial area at the start of the mile long narrows leading to Loch Eil, but once into the Loch, you are surrounded on either side by rural crofts. There are fish cages, but it is a great spot to anchor for lunch or a peaceful night and it is possible to find temporary anchorage in most of the bays, or at the head of the Loch and this is a spot famous for its sunsets. You are seldom far from the shore and will spot lots of Herons and seals, or for something very different - the Jacobite Steam Train heading along the edge of the loch to Mallaig. Originally it was planned that the Caledonian Canal should carry on from here and end on the West Coast North of Ardnamurchan point, but that was perhaps a feat too far for the engineers of the time.
