Light micrograph of the crab (or pubic) louse, Phthirus pubis, that lives permanently attached to the pubic hairs of humans. They may also inhabit armpit hairs, eyebrows, beard & eyelashes. Infestation of crabs gives rise to phthiriasis, which causes itching & may lead to bacterial infection if not treated.
