Andre Kuipers (born 1958). Portrait of the Dutch physician and European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Andre Kuipers. Kuipers took part in the Soyuz TMA-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) for 11 days from 19-30th April 2004. He was then chosen for PromISSe, the fourth ESA long-duration mission to the ISS. He launched on Soyuz TMA-03M on 21st December 2011, and stayed on the ISS for 148 days, returning to Earth on 1st July 2012. He also served as flight engineer for part of Expedition 30 and for all of Expedition 31, helping to carry out over 50 experiments. Photographed at the European Astronaut Centre, Cologne, Germany
