A classic Thames sailing barge, Centaur on the river Orwell, Felixstowe, Suffolk, UK.

The Centaur Thames sailing barge was launched in Harwich in 1895 by J & H Cann who were regarded by some bargemen as the finest wooden barge builders. The shape and style was thought to be second to none. Centaur is a very pretty barge with an elegant transom stern and lovely sheer to her bows. A typical Essex coasting barge she weighs in at 65 tons and in length. Trading under sail until the late 1950's, she was rigged again as a weekend and holiday charter vessel and celebrated her centenary in 1995.
