Beta DNA. Computer graphic representation of a segment of beta-deoxyribonucleic acid (B-DNA). This structure of atoms contains the inherited instructions necessary for the development of a living organism. Atoms are colour-coded: the sugar-phosphate backbone is blue; complementary pairs of organic bases occur inside (red, green). The organic base \adenine\" pairs with \"thymine\", \"cytosine\" with \"guanine\". It is the sequence of DNA bases (a gene) which instructs cells to make specific proteins, and individuals to inherit particular characteristics. The DNA molecule is composed of two twisted helical strands."
