Workers for the New York Dept of Parks and Recreation throw discarded Christmas trees into an industrial wood chipper during the 13th annual MulchFest on Friday January 9 2009 Over the weekend more than 13 000 Christmas trees brought in by New Yorkers to 89 collection and chipping sites are expected to be turned into mulch The resulting mulch is used by the department of insulate and fertilize soil around trees and other plantings Richard B Levine
