Thus, in the Marsupialia, the Cerebralhemispheres exhibit no convolutions; and the great transverse commissure,—the Corpus Callosum,—is deficient. There is gradually to be noticed,however, in ascending the scale, a backward prolongation of the Cerebralhemispheres; so that first the Optic ganglia, and then the Cerebellum, arecovered by them. The latter partly shows itself, however, in all but theQuadrumana, when we look at the brain from above downwards; in theRabbit, the brain of which is among the lowest in its character of those ofthe true Viviparou
