Most of our species are much smaller than the one represented here, but they can be recognized as stone-flies by their resemblance in form to this one. The body is flattened, elongate, and with the sides nearly parallel; l^he prothorax is large ; the antennas are long, tapering, and many jointed ; in most species the caudal end of the abdomen is furnished with two slender appendages. Stone-flies are so called because they pass their early stages beneath stones in streams and ponds. 1. Collect as many kinds of stone-flies as you can, saving several specimens of each kind. 2. Make notes on their powers of flight. 3. Make notes on the localities in which they occur. 4.
