Baglky. -15- wad of cotton so as to present a smooth surface above; now-cut a circle of Manila cardboard as shown in Fig-. 3 a,its diameter being al)out one-third of an inch greater thanthat of the bottle ; with scissors, cut inward to a circle repre-senting the inside diameter of the bottle ; with the point of asharp penknife i)uncture the upper surface of the cardboardto allow the escape of the cyanide fumes,* and apply glueto the cut edges on the lower surface ; now, having foldedthe cut edges, force the cardboard down upon the cotton, ap-plying the glued edges to the sides of the glass. After clean-ing the bottle with a damp cloth, it is ready for use. Whenproperly prepared, the material in the bottom should nottill more than one-fourth of the bottle. Such a bottle shouldlast two or three 3ears. If the cardboard becomes moist,fresh cardboard and cotton may be used. A cork should beused and not a glass stoppe
