The fillet occupies a position between the crusta and teg-mentum, and to differentiate it from a tract that makes itsappearance above the nucleus of the third nerve is called themesial fillet (lemniscus medialis). The other tract is named the lateral fillet. The lateral fillet (lemniscus lateralis) is composed oflongitudinal fibers which take origin from the- nucleus of theeighth cranial nerve (cochlearis) of the same side, from that THE NERVOUS SYSTEM. ;;i; of the opposite side, and from the superior olive.
