Battling Wind and Waves (5 of 7). While Coast Guardsmen strain at the line in a vain effort to keep the broached LCVP steady, others complete the difficult task of getting the cargo ashore. The force of the wind and waves slapping at the side of the boat kept pushing it higher and higher on the rocky shore, and many times the surf broke over the men's heads, soaking them to the skin. It was a battle with the elements as the NORTHWIND's crew struggled for nearly half a day to get the LCVP back into deep water during refuelling operations at Cape Hinchinbrook Light Station, Alaska.
