The Waterpocket Fold, aka Capitol Reef, as seen from a clearing on Boulder Mountain. This view is west-to-east. On the left can be seen the "Capitol Domes" of Navajo sandstone that gave the Capitol Reef its name. In center right is the Bowns Reservoir. Beyond the Waterpocket Fold can be seen the North and South Caineville Reefs (mesas). The California-bound pioneers whose wagon trains came through here called every obstacle a "reef."
