The photograph shows the Cunard liner Mauretania arriving at the North River, bringing home the first large contingent of American troops from England on December 2, 1918. The soldiers on board were mostly members of aero units. The photograph was taken by Lt. Geo. Lyon on December 9, 1918 and was passed by the censor on December 13, 1918.
