Oleander Hawkmoth (Daphnis nerii) at rest on an Iris flower
The Oleander Hawkmoth (Daphis nerii) is a beautiful but rare vagrant species in Britain but is quite commonly found in southern Europe and North Africa The most likely period to encounter it is from August to October. The larva feeds on periwinkle (Vinca spp.) as well as Oleander (Nerium oleander) which is poisonous to most creatures.
