The Zöllner illusion. A parallel line appears to slant in direction of shorter lines crossing at an angle

The Zöllner illusion. Parallel lines crossed by another short row of lines inclined at an angle will appear to slant in the direction in which the lines are falling. Tilting the lower edge of the page upwards will enhance the illusion. From The Strand Magazine, published 1897.
