Tarr's gallantry and intrepidity in action in the Solomons have brought him the Silver Star, personally presented by Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, , and promotion from boatswain's mate first class to chief. The Coast Guardsman, who comes from Chincoteague Island, Va., was coxswain of a landing barge at Tulagi. After landing a Marine contingent without loss in the face of hot Japanese fire, he made several more trips with ammunition.
