The Carrickshock incident, Carrickshock massacre, or battle of Carrickshock, a confrontation between the Irish Constabulary and local Catholic tenant farmers near Carrickshock, County Kilkenny, 14 December 1831, during the Tithe War in Ireland. The Tithe War in Ireland reached its peak in 1831/1832, when the people who occupied agricultural land were taxed, these taxes or tithes were paid not only to the Church of Ireland but to the people's own priests, the Roman Catholic population particularly resented these tithes.
