Frederick II, The Great (1712-1786), King of Prussia from 1740, at the Battle of Rossbach, 1757. The Battle of Rossbach was an engagement fought in Prussian Saxony in November 1757 during the Seven Years War (1756-1763). The Prussian army under Frederick defeated a French army twice its size. An officer on the left views the progress of the battle through a field telescope, while two horsemen ride past, one of them doffing his hat to the King.
