Best-known bronze monument to Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus in the Poland’s capital city.

Copernicus was born in Torun on 19 February 1473. He studied law, medicine, theology, Greek and mathematics with astronomy at the famous universities of Cracow, Bologna and Padua. In a scientific dissertation “De revolutionibus orbitum coelestium” he presented revolutionary theory of the construction of the universe in which he proved that the Sun is the centre of universe.
