Thebaisti of the sliort, broad, dentate bill is hidden by appressed antrorsefeathers; tlie ^A•ings are short and rounded, with falcate quills; thetail is long, of twelve broad feathers; the feet are very small andweak. The general plumage is soft and lax, the skin tender, tlieeyelids lashed. A well-marked family of about 50 species andperhaps a dozen genera, chietly inhabiting tropical America.
