Southport Hospital, June 1962. The site for a hospital in Southport was selected in 1921 but construction did not start until 1949. The 18 bed maternity hospital opened in 1952 but did not become a general hospital until 1960. It was incorporated into the Gold Coast Hospital and closed in 2013 with all services transferred to the new Gold Coast University Hospital.
