Light microscopy of a salivary gland characterized by clusters or lobules of glands surrounding a system of branching ducts into which saliva is secreted en route to the oral cavity. This is the submandibular gland. Its individual glands consist of pale staining mucus-secreting cells and purple-stained cells that secrete a watery fluid rich in digestive enzymes. Magnification x50 when narrow width printed at 10 cm.
