Raised by Mrs. Ezra Merchant, of Milford, Conn,was found in apound of tea, whichshe purchased at thestore, hence itsname. Tree vigorous andproductive, youngwood greenish-yel-low. Fruit medium,obovate, inclining topyriform, with a su-ture on one lemon yellow,with numerous smallbrown dots, andsometimes a reddishcheek. Stalk ratherstout, inserted ob-liquely, under a lipin a very small cavi-ty. Calyx half clos-ed, basin white, fine,juicy, melting andvinous. Ripens lastof August to middleof September; a verypromising pear. The seed. Tea. Theodore Van Mons. Bivort, Thomp. Tree vigorous and productive on pear or quince. Fruit rather large, elongated, obscurely pyriform, greenish, slightly sprinkled with russet. Stalk inserted atan inclination by a lip, surrounded by russet. Calyx closed, setin a small, irregular basin. Flesh white, coarse, granular, juicy,melting and vinous. Ripe September, October. 552 THE PEAR.
