The inshore (ILB) lifeboat operates from Lytham opposite the Queens Hotel, and adjacent to the Ribble Cruising Club. The Lytham Station was opened in 1851 followed by a lifeboat being placed at St Annes in 1881. The St Annes Station was closed in 1925 and subsequently the Lytham Station was renamed “Lytham St Annes” in 1931. Since 1851 the Station has saved the lives of nearly 500 people in over 1,450 launches on service as well as giving assistance to hundreds more people in danger but not at that time in imminent risk of Inshore inflatable D class lifeboat MOAM has her own boathouse at Central Beach (opposite the Queens Hotel).With a crew of three, the MOAMis restricted by weather conditions and crew constraints but her shallow draft and fast response time make her an ideal life saving vessel for the Ribble Estuary. She is either launched by manpower from Lytham jetty or by Land Rover at various sites depending on the tide and the casualty’s location. Grace Darling was the first women lifesaver at sea in 1838
