Illustration by Alfred Pearse (1855-1933) from a history of the Scottish People published in 1893. According to the text the Scots were fleeing down a narrow lane from the Danes when a peasant called Hay and his 2 sons armed themselves with plough-yokes and attacked the Danes barring the pass and forcing the Scots to rejoin the fray. As a result the Scots rallied and defeated the Danes with great slaughter.
