At theshow at South Keiisiiiuton in 1878, abronze medal was awarded to him inthe class for the best movable comb hive,and at the great show at Kilburn in 1879he ol)taine(l a ))ronze iriedal for his Alex-andra hive, and the same year, at theexliibition at South Kensington, the silver medal for the same hive. In 1880, at theSouth Kensington show, Mr. Hookerobtained a bronze medal for hi- hive andanother for hiis super. In 1883 the first. HOOKERS ALEXANDRA HIVE. prize was awarded him for the best move-able comb-hive. Mr. Hooker was one ofthe judges at the Royal AgriculturalSocietys exhibitions for several years, alsoat several of the Bath and West of Englandand Roval Counties shows. In the BlighCompetition of 1882-1883, he obtained thefirst prize for largest quantity of honey,etc., from one swarm. Mr. Hookersmechanical knowledge enabled him tomake many improvemente in hives andappliances, and he invented an ingeniousuncapjiing machine, which, however, wastoo costly to come into general use. In1888 he })ublislied a small book called Hookers Guide to Successful Bee-Keej)-ing, and has been a constant and faithfulcontributor to our pages.
