Alfred Joseph Hitchcock (1899-1980), British film director. Hitchcock directed over 60 films in a career lasting more than 50 years. He was known as 'The Master of Suspense', using pioneering techniques in his direction of psychological thrillers. He worked in the UK in his early career, moving to Hollywood in 1939. His most famous films include 'Rebecca' (1940), 'Rear Window' (1954), 'Vertigo' (1958), 'Psycho' (1960), and 'The Birds' (1963). He was knighted in 1980. Photographed by Fred Palumbo in 1956.
