An electrically operated braking mechanism for electriccars has recently been patented by W. B. Porter, ofSchenectady, N. Y., who has assigned the patent to theGeneral Electric Company. The braking apparatus isdesigned to be operated by the current from the motorswhen they have been reversed and act as generators, as aresult of the momentum of the car. The controller consistsof three cylinders, a controlling cylinder for the motorswhen operating as motors, a brake cylinder or controllerfor the motors when reversed and operating as generators, and a receiving C3linder or switch. These three cylindersare provided with separate handles and an interlocking.
