Frontlet and Horns of Lord Derbys Eland, from tlic (ianil)ia. LORD DERBYS ELAND (Taurotragus derbianus). In this magnificent species the horns are longer and stouter thanin the typical eland, and the ears broader. Sub-adult bulls have theforehead chestnut, but a chocolate frontal tuft is developed later ; thereis an imperfect white chevron below the eyes, the lower part of theface is dark brown ; a dark collar bordered below with white occupiesthe sides of the neck ; and the back of the neck carries a dark brownmane. The general colour of the hair is chestnut or rufous in thetypical race, but paler in the Sudani race ; the number of white body- 334 RECORDS OF BIG GAME stripes being 14 or 15 in the former and about 10 in the latter.
