YIGO, Guam (Feb. 10, 2023) - Soldiers from the Guam Army National Guard's 1224th Engineer Support Company (ESC) who comprises unit Task Force Phalanx, and Soldiers from Guam Army National Guard Element, 1-294th Infantry Battalion, H Company, 1224th Engineer Support Company and the Medical Detachment of the Guam Army National Guard, who comprises unit Task Force Sindalu, participated in a transfer of authority ceremony at the Andersen Air Force Base Guam in Yigo, Feb. 7. Task Force Sindalu officially took over the mission from Task Force Phalanx to provide security operations in support of Task Force Talon who is responsible for operating the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) on Guam. The THAAD is an anti-ballistic missile defense system designed to protect Guam from incoming ballistic missiles in their terminal (descent or re-entry) phase. In attendance for the historical ceremony was Joint Region Marianas Commander Rear Admiral Benjamin Nicholson, fourth from left, who recognized Captain Jin Yi, Company Commander of the outgoing unit Task Force Phalanx and Captain Denise Chargualaf, Company Commander of the incoming unit Task Force Sindalu, for their tremendous commitment to the mission.
