Non Exclusive: A once-in-a-lifetime treasure trove of never before seen James Dean memorabilia has been discovered through the estate of Dean's New York agent, Jane Deacy. The nearly 400-lot collection follows James Dean's meteoric rise over the span of three short years from an unknown New York actor to global icon, before the tragic car accident cut his life short and sent shockwaves through Hollywood. Unique not only for the quality of the items, the collection is also unprecedented for its quantity, as James Dean's estate was passed through his family and has never come to auction. The James Dean Collection will be auctioned by Nate D. Sanders Auctions on May 25, 2023. Interested bidders may participate in the auction online at The James Dean collection features a bounty of rare and unique items, including the Warner Bros. original signed contract for East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause and Giant, which catapulted Dean to top Hollywood actor and a cultural teenage sensation. Two handwritten letters from Dean to Deacy also reveal intimate details of Dean’s life; he had anxiety over shooting East of Eden, while acknowledging personal issues such as “discreetly" looking for a dentist since he was sensitive about his false front teeth, and not getting along with his family. Also featured are Dean’s motorcycle registration card and a signed photo to Deacy inscribed as “Mom.” Dean viewed Lady Jane, as Deacy was called, as a second mother since he grew up without a mother for the majority of his childhood and had an estranged relationship with his stepmother.
