Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) eggs. These eggs are able to withstand drought for months. When water is added, they will hatch into larvae which will develop in stages to form the adult winged form. This mosquito, native to South-East Asia and the Indian Ocean, is a vector for pathogens such as West Nile virus, yellow fever virus, dengue virus and zika virus.
