Matthiesen and Mrs. Matthiesen have returned from an extended motor trip through California, although their traveling was limited by the unex- pected illness of Mrs. Matthiesen in Los Angeles. The return trip was made by the coast route, and only fair road con- ditions were encountered. A big crop of mums is coming along for this grower. Tlie City Flower Shop has taken ad- vantage of the heavier cut of Butterfly roses to feature these flowers in the late window displays. The demand for medium-priced funeral pieces has shown some increase, but that for larger items is still below the normal. Tom Luke, of Smith's Flower Shop, Portland; W. Wallmark, of the City Floral & Seed Co., Everett, and Mrs. Howard, of Los Angeles, are among tlie florists who liave called on the Seattle trade lately. W. J. Lake & Co. have been appointed exclusive northwest agents for the Chi- cago Printed String Co., according to an announcement made here last week. According to J. 0. Hankins, of the Seattle Pottery Co., there has been a good increase in the recent demand for pots. He has made arrangements this season for a suitable supply of clay for winter use and in this way expects to avoid any delays caused by tlie bank caving in again, as was the case last year.
