A poster from the NY Police Dept. instructing pedestrians how to cross a street is seen at an intersection in the neighborhood of Chelsea of New York on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. The NYPD has started a crackdown on jaywalking with 452 tickets issued for the offense in the first two months of the year. Comparable figures from last year report that only 50 tickets were issued during that time frame with 531 tickets given in all of 2013. Jaywalking is part of the culture of New York, which is considered a "walking city", and it is doubtful that anyone will stand around at a red-light with no cars coming. (© Richard B. Levine)
