Bigeye scad(Selar sp.) shoal. The scad is mainly nocturnal, congregating in large shoals of hundreds of thousands of fish. These shoals provide individual fish safety from predators. The scad feeds on zooplankton when offshore and on small shrimps when inshore. It can reach lengths of 60 centimetres and weigh up to 6 kilograms. Photographed off Lankayan, Malaysia.
