Castell Coch (welsh for the Red Castle) is situated in the village of Tongwynlais, near Cardiff. The castle was rebuilt on ancient foundations by the third Marquess of Bute, a fabulously rich Victorian, who owned much of Cardiff at the time. The architect was William Burgess, who was given free rein to create a "fairy tale" castle on the site.
