At the same time the dose should not be larger thanis necessary and may have to be \aried from time to time as circum-stances change. Unless the treatment is begun early no completereturn to the normal is obtained, although improvement is observedeven in neglected cases. The use of thyroid preparations in these conditions, in which thegland is atrophied, is readily understood. On the other hand it seemsanomalous to employ it in cases of enlargement of the gland (goitre).Yet great improvement is seen from thyroid treatment in many of Fig. 67 Fic. OS.
