A characteristic and very interesting series of \essels was acquiredrecently l\v the National Museum from Mr C. H. B. Lloyd, who exhumedthem from a mound in Franklin county. Ten of these are shown inplate Lxxviii. They represent a wide range of form and finish. Thepaste is silicious but generally tine-grained, and in some pieces flecksof mica are plentiful. The color is a warm gray, save in one case, wherethe firing has given a mottled terra-cotta red. In general they areSouth Appalachian rather than Floridiau,
