A French broad-sword for a member of the heavy cavalry, mid-18th century. Slightly curved, robust blade à la Montmerency, the forte etched on both sides with the portrayal of Saint Simon Zelotes and scrolling foliage. Brass hilt with shell-shaped knuckle guard, side bars and thumb ring. Leather-covered grip bound with twisted copper wire, faceted back with shell-shaped cap. Original leather scabbard with covered brass mounts. Blade slightly pitted, leather scabbard with one small flaw.
