For many years his counselhad been eagerly sought by those who were in charge of import-ant affairs and his opinion on legal matters contributed lightto many a difficult controversy. The community sustains a great loss in Mr. Mahoneysdeath. The University in particular will miss his strong sup-port but we may all glory in the record which he made, becauseof its inspiration for better e/FpucATiONAL World President Walter A. Jessup was formally inaugurated atthe University of Iowa on May 11th and 12th. President Mc-Menamy of the Creighton University attended the inaugura-tion. The Government has granted permission for the estab-lishment of an Infantry Unit of the Reserve Officers TrainingCorps at the University of Iowa. The men will be furnisheduniforms, including shoes, free of cost, and will be provided withthe 1903 model Springfield rifle now in use in the regular third and fourth year men will be paid at the rate of $ month for a period of twenty-one months. Graduates ofthe course will be allowed to enroll in the Officers Reserve Corpsand will be permitted to enter the Army as Second Lieutenantsfor a six months training period at $ per month in addi-tion to the regular allowances of a second lieutenant.
