In former years the Spalding Cup, one of the handsomesttrophies ever put up for competition in a base ball league, hasbeen won by the Illinois Trust and Savings Bank in 1903, andthe Northern Trust Company in 1904. Previous to 1903 theState Bank won the championship in 1901, a pennant being thenthe trophy, while in 1902 the league fell into hard times and didnot finish the
