A steam engine having opposed cylinders, which can be constructed by an amateur The cylinders are made from l6-gageseamless-drawn brass tubing. This is13^-2 ins. outside diameter and should beentirely smooth and free from blisters onthe inside. A piece 6 ins. long will makeboth cylinders and the eccentric ring, allowing for squaring and cutting. Ifno tubing is available an old bicycle-pump or automobile-lire pump willfurnish the material. After one end ofthe tubing is squared up the length ofthe cylinder 2)^2 ins. is measured off on it and carefulhmarked, afterwhich it is cutat that pointwith the hack-saw. The endis againscjuared upwith the fileand anothercylindermarked andcut off, afterwhich the twouneven ends ofthe CNlinders are filed true and cylinder heads are required, onefor each cylinder. These are shown at67/ in Plate 2. l^se i8-gage brass orhea\-y sheet-tin, cut i] ^> ins. in diameterand carefulh solder in place. The steam-chest, SC in Plate 2, is ajiiece
