The surgeoninserts his two thumbsinto the mouth andlays them on the alve-olar processes of thelower jaw; the boneis then pressed firstdownward and thensomewhat this way the ar-ticular extremity ispushed back until itrests on the articulartubercle, and finallyinto the glenoid fossa,and the dislocation isreduced. The suddendisappearance of themuscular resistance, which produces the fixation of the head of the bone, isplainly felt as the luxation is reduced.
