Guy's Cliffe aka Guys Cliff is a hamlet on the River Avon in Warwickshire, England. Derived from the legendary Guy of Warwick who retired to a hermitage on this site, which led to the founding of a chantry established in 1423 as the Chapel of St Mary Magdelene. Prior to this, when Edward II travelled to Boulogne to marry Isabella in 1308, he left Piers Gaveston, a Gascon knight to act as regent. Prior to this, when Edward II travelled to Boulogne to marry Isabella in 1308, he left Piers Gaveston, a Gascon knight to act as regent. He was captured first by the Earl of Warwick, whom he was seen to have offended, and handed over to two Welshmen who took him to Blacklow Hill and murdered him; one ran him through the heart with his sword and the other beheaded him.
