US-Mexico border, north-western Sonoran Desert. North is towards upper right. Farm fields (green) lie between the Salton Sea in California (top) and the Colorado River Delta in Mexico (bottom, including Montague Island). The US-Mexico border (across upper centre) includes the city of Mexicali, capital of Baja California. The Colorado River descends from the Colorado Plateau (top right), separating part of Mexico's Gran Desierto de Altar (Altar Desert, lower right) and the Algodones Dunes (narrow strip, upper right). At centre left the Laguna Salada dry lake (white) is west of the Sierra de Los Cucapah mountains. The north-south distance is about 250 kilometres.
