Roses selling for $ the week before were advanced to $2 and other prices were increased on a similar scale. There was a fine cut of roses, including Rus- sell, Ophelia and Beauties, but the de- mand was sufficiently strong to assure a close clean-up for the holiday, espe- cially as out-of-town shipments early in the week were heavy. Cold and rainy weather had a tendency to shorten up the supply of chrysanthemums, but there was some nice stock to be had, two of the best varieties being Helen Frick and Appleton. Carnations were still on the short side of the market. Miscellaneous outdoor stock has dwin- dled down to marigolds and cosmos, both of which continue to sell well. Violets constitute an important item, the demand being ^mple to clear the supplies daily. Paper White narcissi are a welcome addition, the first offer- ings for the season having put in an appearance last week. Poinsettias, both cut and potted, show up well and the demand leaves nothing to be de- sired. The same may be said of cycla- mens. Other flowering plants are con- spicuous by their absence, with the ex- ception of a limited supply of nice heather plants and cockcombs. Receipts of California red berries are light.
